About Our School

A Message from the Principal

Welcome to St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic School, Carnarvon.

My name is Darren McDonald and I have been the Principal at St Mary's School since the start of 2010. I have been working in Catholic schools since 1996 and have held substantive leadership roles since 2000.

St Mary's School caters for boys and girls from kindergarten to year ten and our main focus is to provide a quality Catholic education to the students in the Carnarvon area and surrounds. We aim to provide a safe, caring and loving environment where our students want to come and learn.

Our school is centred on Christian values whereby all members treat each other with respect and dignity.

St Mary's is characterised by its strong sense of community and tradition begun by the Presentation Sisters in 1906. The parents work hard to support all of our endeavours so that our students are provided with all they need to receive the best education possible.

The staff are a close knit team who work hard to ensure that all students learning and social needs are catered for allowing our school to be a special place for all students. St. Mary's currently runs a class for each year group from kindergarten to year ten.

Each classroom contains a reverse-cycle air conditioner that allows for maximum student comfort all year round. Interactive whiteboards are also featured throughout the school. These are technological tools that are both motivating for teachers and students. They aid teachers in their teaching and students in their learning. Library, physical education and music are taken by specialists. On top of this, teachers plan quality and relevant lessons, in detail, for every day.

Our students, however, are our biggest asset and watching them learn and grow in confidence every day due to the warm and supportive family atmosphere that exists at St. Mary's is our greatest pleasure.
